Program 18. Forum Neue Energiewelt 2017

16.11.2017 – 1. Conference day

Welcome to the 18. Forum Neue Energiewelt

You can register fo4r the conference and gather your conference materials at the reception. Thereafter enjoy a cup of coffee and network with the conference participants or take part in the business speed dating.

You want to get to know the market players, make contacts and exchange business cards?

Then join us at the Business Speed Dating round as a prelude.

Speed-dating is a well-known avenue to bring together potential partners within short exchanges, to see if the chemistry is right. Business speed dating simply translates to companies talking about their projects, plans, offers, basically themselves, to stimulate new ideas within a short time frame.

If you have at least two minutes to spare to talk about your company and yourself, then use this time to pique the interest of the person sitting across from you. You have a further two minutes for exchange and to set a new date.
Thereafter, it is time for a new partner. After half an hour, you would have had the chance to speak to five potential business contacts and have the opportunity to deepen your conversation over the conference days.

The Business-Speed-Dating will be led by Tina Barroso, Solarpraxis Neue Energiewelt.

Opening plenum

This session will be visionary, surprising and at the same time, concrete.

- What are the new market and technological innovations in the horizon?
- What innovative business models are there for energy suppliers and utilities?
- How can we successfully bring integrated energy into the new energy world?
- How can supply be secured in the event of dark doldrums?
- How can the energy branch and politics cooperate to steer the Energiewende on a clear and straight path?
These themes will be discussed with experts from the industry and politics at the opening plenum.

You will be greeted by the hosts Karl-Heinz Remmers and Tina Barroso from Solarpraxis Neue Energiewelt, together with Miriam Janke, the event designer and moderator who will lead these sessions.

Themes and questions that cannot be answered at the sessions will be further discussed and developed at the workshop at 13.00 hr.

The exhibitors will present elevator pitches to the conference participants. These are short presentations, akin to time spent in elevator rides. Get informed on the news companies bring from the branch and visit the stands in the exhibition.

The elevator-pitches session will be led by Anastasia Segovia, Solarpraxis Neue Energiewelt.

13.00 - 14.30 first block - 4 parallel Sessions

Forum Neue Energiewelt, Room: Paris 2015

The grid applies to us all. The energy world can only function when the electricity can be optimally delivered from the supplier to the user. Installation operators, grid operators, storage, load management, digitalisation, and energy suppliers – a large number of players need to work more intensively with one another and cooperate on important common themes. We lay the foundation for this to happen at the Forum Neue Energiewelt. Be a part of it.

These themes will be discussed with experts and led by Miriam Janke, event designer and moderator as well as Karl-Heinz Remmers, solarpraxis Neue Energiewelt will act as co-moderator.

Here are the presenters:

  • Werner Götz, Transnet BW
  • Jochen Homann, Bundesnetzagentur, status requested
  • Dr. Karsten Wildberger, E.ON, status requested
  • and more

Themes and questions that cannot be answered at the sessions will be further discussed and developed at the workshop at 15.30 hr.

Workshop, Room: Doha 2012

The dark doldrums or dunkelflaute, are times when neither solar or wind energy is being produced. This probability is rather slim. Even in such an event, Germany will be able to export electricity. Nevertheless it is a theme to discuss.

In this session, the theme of dunkelflaute and the themes discussed at the opening plenum will be reflected upon, discussed and further developed together. With the speakers of the opening session and other experts, we discuss possible solutions, how serious this theme is and the communication around the dunkelflaute in relation to politics.

Ideally, you will bring back not just possible thoughts on the subject but rather concrete ideas and concepts for possible short term applications.
The presenters will provide the participants of the workshop with a short summary of the results of the working groups.

The results will also be made available after the Forum Neue Energiewelt.

The workshop will be led by Elke Spaeth, Power2Com

Forum Solarpraxis, Room: Bonn 2017

The use of solar energy has become a standard in many private households. However when it comes to solar thermal in larger scales, the market stagnates. The technical challenges and the development of large-scale collectors are aplenty, solar thermal is starting to be seen as a team player with the other renewables and CHP. How do we gauge this market? Come to this session and get informed with other participants.

This session with expert presentations and a discussion round with the public and experts will be led by Volker Buddensiek, Sonne Wind & Wärme

Here are the presenters:

  • Hans Eimannsberger, Genossenschaft Preetz EnergieWende
  • Karl Ochsner, Ochsner

Energy Start-ups & CEO-Panel

CEO-Panel: We are all in the energiewende, but we do not know one another. We will change that here.

At the 17. Forum Neue Energiewelt last year, we realised that the CEOs who were on the panel were all involved in energiewende and busy with the new energy world, but barely had contact with one another before meeting on the podium. This year, we will invite the CEOs from the different segments again and within the framework of the discussion we will discuss contact points and ideally projects and strategies that can be ideally developed together.

The Energy Start-Ups will kick off the session again.

On 5. September 2017, after the Blockchain-Tag 2017 at Vattenfall, the 5. Energy Start-up Networking session will take place. 8-15 start-ups will present their ideas and business models. The public and the jury will select their favourites. The winners will present their ideas for the new energy world. Information on the 5. Energy Start-up Networking can be found here: bit.ly/EnergyStartUps

After the pitches, the representatives of the energy start-ups will have an exchange with the CEOs of the panel. We believe that the CEOs of established companies have just as much to learn from start-ups as start-ups from these companies. Directly after this, the CEO-Panel will start. Highly recognised representatives of the new energy world will discuss the most important questions in the branch.

This session will be led by Miriam Janke, event designer and moderator as well as Karl-Heinz Remmers, Solarpraxis Neue Energiewelt.

Here are the CEO panel experts:

  • Eva Hauser, IZES
  • Claus Wattendrupp, Vattenfall Innovations
  • Hildegrad Müller, Innogy, requested
  • Other experts have been requested.

Workshop: A look at the international tenders and PV-Wind-Hybrids

Till now, wind and PV have been seen as separate entities under the German EEG as well as other subsidy systems. History confirms that cost and application in the EU have been on different ends. Many players in the market are involved either in wind or solar. Only a handful do both. Utilities have always seen the two as separate entities. When wind and solar are combined, many GWs can be produced with both complementing one another and by expanding the grid. The grid conversion costs can thereby even move towards zero.

Are the new tenders with international flair and the Solar+Wind movement an innovation wave? Or are we missing the point, to finally think of the EEG in a systematic manner? This can happen when we continue to look at the tenders with the key words “lowest price” and “one or the other” instead of “a system only sustains with both”. Systematic thinking still needs to be learned in the new energy world. This workshop will take care of that.

The presenters will provide the participants of the workshop with a short summary of the results of the working groups.

The results will also be made available after the Forum Neue Energiewelt.
The Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and members of energy companies have been invited.

Forum Solarpraxis, Room: Bonn 2017

More than ever, quality plays a pivotal role in the photovoltaic market. This is also understandable considering the millions in investment. What is the quality of the existing plants and how are reclamations done? How are the experiences with module exchanges and technical installations of PV plants?

Satellite, Room: Berlin 1995

Production and consumption peaks do not always tally for energy. This has led to the inconvenient tariffs for energy-intensive companies imposed by utilities. The use of bigger energy storage solutions hereby enables a financially optimised potential (peak-shaving). For smaller and mid-size energy suppliers there is an effect akin to contingent purchase in the energy stock market. The complete system also enables grid relief. Many companies are also taking the path of self-production with photovoltaic, wind or CHP to cover their needs to a large degree. Hence the optimisation of self-consumption plays a role with relation to the decrease in feed-in tariffs. Storage can provide the solution for a blackout-free supply.

The storage day XXL by SolarAllianz combines concepts for XXL storage with the strategic interest on the mid-tier, utilities and producers of renewable energy. Companies will present different products and services on the theme of energy storage and will pose critical questions which will lead to discussions.

This satellite is supported and organised by SolarAllianz.

Satellit Future Innovation Forum

Innovative energy technologies develop at fast pace, ranging from materials to applications. The results of R&D, application development as well as from industrial adoption will have a major impact on the energy generation from solar and wind as well as on the ways energy is stored, distributed and consumed. Digitalization will be another key innovation driver of the new energy world.

In this satellite we will highlight innovations for the new energy world and look at their potential to induce change, cost reductions and efficiency increases.

The new energy world is integrated energy

The huge chances and potential coming from the integration of electricity, heat and the transport sector are non-arguable. What happens when we also see the new energy world as “integrated energy”? In other words the integration and linking of all relevant fields? A transitionary thought that will change in the coming years, and in turn influence sectors like construction and trade. Even the heating sector can be thought anew, when we bring into the picture large heat storage, power to x, and seasonal storage. When it comes to the challenges of immediate flexibility, then we look at optimised load management, different storage solutions, and other good options. However when we look at second-and-hour precise flexibility, then things start to look different. When we take integrated energy as market integration, how will the energy world look like?

This session with expert presentations and a discussion round with the public and experts will be led by Tobias Kurth, Energy Brainpool

Room: Paris 2015

The conference as summarized by Karl-Heinz Remmers: a legendary event. It always pays to stay till the end. Let yourself be inspired by Karl-Heinz Remmers and his solid assurance to move forth into the new energy world.
